FTA Coffee partners with OLAM Coffee, which is based in the United States, and together we work hard with our producer partners to offer roasters a consistent supply of the highest quality coffees year to year. Futhermore, we are continuously building new producer relationships to expand our offerings and find the right coffees for you! When you partner with FTA Coffee, we firmly believe that our network becomes your network and we want you to get involved. To learn more about how our network becomes your network, keep on reading. More about buyers
Our network is your network, so we make sure the vast majority of our coffee is traceable to the producer and includes a strong story. We do this because we want to reward producers for great coffee and because we believe insightful producer stories are an incredibly powerful part of what makes a great cup of coffee. Whenever a coffee on our website is not traceable to the producer, just ask your Coffee Trader for more insight. Our network is your network also applies to our team's expertise. Our team consists of former farmers, roasters, baristas and small business owners. We are excited about sharing our knowledge with our roaster partners. In addition, we of course sell green coffee! Generally, we can help you structure three different types of green coffee deals. We sell Spot Coffee as well as Forward Coffee, and we also help facilitate Direct Trade deals.
What is spot coffee: We warehouse a variety of coffees in Melbourne that have not yet been sold. These are spot coffees.
How buying spot from FTA works: Shop our online store and filter by "Spot" to view coffees currently warehoused in Melbourne. Select any quantity you want and then either add it to your wishlist, request samples or place an order. Have a question about buying spot? ...give us a call at +61.3.8398.0500.
A few things to keep in mind about buying spot:
Some of our coffee prices fluctuate with the InterContinental Exchange's (ICE) Coffee C contract commonly referred to as the "C Market". Whether or not the price fluctuates depends a lot on the contract we have negotiated with the supplier. To see if one of our coffees fluctuates with the C Market or not, click on the "i" icon next to price per pound in your shopping cart.
Spot coffee can be purchased with a credit card, cash up front, or we can finance the sale for a certain number of days, i.e. we can arrange "Terms". If you would like to request Terms please talk with your trader about the options.
We guarantee the quality of all our spot coffees - if the coffee that arrives at your roasting plant is not consistent with what you sampled we will take it back and replace it!
What is forward coffee: We partner with coffee producers and exporters globally and offer their coffee for future shipments while it is still at origin. These are forward coffees.
How buying forward from FTA works: Shop our online store and filter by "Forward" to view coffees still at origin or en route. An ETA month is provided for each forward coffee. Select the quantity you want, confirm the destination warehouse is convenient for you and submit your request. If the destination warehouse says WWO (World Wide Open), check with your trader about possible destinations. Have another question about buying forward? ...give us a call at +61.3.8398.0500.
Three things to remember about buying forward:
Some of our forward coffee prices fluctuate with the InterContinental Exchange's Coffee C contract commonly referred to as the "C Market". Whether or not the price fluctuates depends a lot on the contract we have negotiated with the supplier. To see if one of our coffees fluctuates with the C Market or not, click the "i" icon next to the price per pound on the product page.
Forward coffee can be purchased before it arrives in Australia or New Zealand, but you will not be invoiced until the coffee has arrived and has been approved by you. At that point coffee can be paid for with a credit card, cash up front, or we can finance the coffee for a certain number of days, i.e. we can arrange "Terms". If you would like to request Terms please talk with your trader about the options.
We guarantee the quality of all our forward coffees.
Direct Trade Coffee
What is Direct Trade coffee: Some roasters work directly with coffee producers, farms, or cooperatives and conduct their own training, contract negotiation and purchasing. This is direct trade.
How FTA can facilitate direct trade: Have you developed a good relationship and begun contract negotiation with a producer, but need a little more assistance? We are available to help process, finance, move, and warehouse the coffee. Also for established roaster partners, we are happy to make introductions. There are a variety of ways to structure a direct trade partnership. If you would like to talk through options, give us a call at +61.3.8398.0500.
Three things to remember about direct trade coffee:
Contract negotiation is between the roaster and producer.
For our established roaster partners, we can finance the coffee for a certain number of days, i.e. we can arrange "Terms". If you would like to request "Terms" please talk with your trader about the options.
We CANNOT guarantee the quality of direct trade coffees. If a direct trade coffee arrives damaged, the roaster is still liable for the entire lot. We have to stress and enforce this because quality control is an integral component of every contract we negotiate. When we don't negotiate the contract, we can't be liable for anything that happens to the coffee.
